Broccoli

Broccoli is a plant in the cabbage family (Brassicaceae oleraceae), whose large is used as a vegetable. Broccoli has large flower heads, usually green in color, arranged in a tree-like structure on branches sprouting  from a thick, edible stalk.

The mass of flower heads is surrounded by leaves. Broccoli most closely resembles cauliflower, which is a different cultivar group of the same species. Broccoli is high in vitamin C, as well as dietary fiber; it also contains multiple nutrients with potent anti-cancer properties, such as diindolylmethane and small amounts of selenium.

It is less popular than cauliflower in everyday use although it has more carbohydrates, fat, vitamins and minerals than cauliflower. In fact, boiled broccoli has more vitamin C than an orange, and it contains more calcium than a glass of milk. Only a small portion of broccoli contains more fiber than a slice of wholemeal bread. Broccoli is also one of the best sources of vitamin A in nature.
